NEXT Focus Event on High-Throughput

Published May 23, 2025

Around 40 people came together to assess High-Throughput. The why's, what's happening and future sample holder, software, new x-ray instruments and LSI capabilities.

On 20 May, around 40 people came together in Kista to share what's happening in High-Throughput.

We started with an overview of why shaping high-throughput capabilities was important for research and innovations in materials sciences - and so an Archetypal Characterisation Challenge, with ongoing projects, in the NEXT Competence Centre. Emerging project findings, and new sample holder designs, were presented and discussed.

These talks were complemented by industry insights and presentations about High-Throughput capabilities and constraints at the PETRA III Swedish Materials Science beamline and the MAX IV Laboratory.

Our SME partners then showcased capabilities in High-Throughput Software and higher-energy lab-scale x-ray instruments, which included a tour of the Excillum Facility. There people could see for themselves various components of the liquid jet x-ray and instrument configurations, which triggered quite a few discussions that continued during the mingle. Thank you Excillum for hosting us.

Thank you also to the presenters: Peter Hedström (KTH Royal Institute of Technology), Gabriel SPARTACUS (Swerim AB), Rebecka Kaerras (NEXT MSc Thesis Student), Jan Y Jonsson (Outokumpu), Fredrik Lindberg (Sandvik Coromant), Ulrich Lienert (DESY), Conny Såthe and Kirsten Christensen (MAX IV Laboratory) as well as Ahmet Bahadır Yıldız, Emil Österberg (Scatterin AB), William Twengström and Björn Hansson (Excillum).
